Suppliers
Medical Device suppliers will be well aware of upcoming legislation changes that will come into full effect in July 2025. These changes will require suppliers to assign Unique Device Identifiers (UDI) codes to medical devices before they are placed on the market.
Reusable medical devices will also be required to bear a UDI carrier that is permanent and readable after each process.
GS1 standard’s is the recommended standards by NHS Scotland for suppliers to adopt for UDI’s, and it is GS1 standards that will be applied for all medical device scanning, as part Scan for Safety implementation.
Suppliers of medical devices to NHSScotland, can find a summary of resources in relation to these legislative developments, including guidance on adopting GS1 standards to get ‘legislation ready’.
