The Scan for Safety programme will be underpinned by the use of GS1 global standards and their suite of unique identifiers to support the successful delivery of the programme. A range of tailored webinars have been created which can be accessed below. 

The webinars provide the opportunity to find out more about GS1 standards work and understand the principles of our Scan for Safety programme.  

Five webinars have been created: 

• GS1 standards adoption for healthcare providers – An introduction to GS1 standards and how they’re used across the NHS. 

• Place management and GLNs – A guide to the implementation and use of GS1 Global Location Numbers (GLNs) to improve traceability through the NHS estate. 

• Product identification – The value of GS1 Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) and their importance to patient safety. 

• Patient identification – Accurate, positive patient identification, first time every time, using the GS1 Global Service Relation Number (GSRN). 

• Practical use cases – How GS1 standards work in practice for asset management and surgical instrument tracking.
